The accused actor, facing the charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder which attracts a 10-year sentence, in the hearing of his 2002 hit-and-run case on Friday, March 27, had pointed out that the defence had not considered questioning his driver Ashok Singh in the course of the investigation over the last 13 years though he was present on the spot and was also allegedly the one who informed the cops about the incident.

Driver Singh appeared in court and said that the accident happened because he lost control of the vehicle, following a tyre burst. “The driver Ashok Singh has been put up by the defence. He has told the court that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident,” said Public Prosecutor Pradeep Gharat after the statement was recorded.

The hearing in this case has resumed after the missing documents 63 original statements of the witnesses and case diaries were found and placed before judge DW Deshpande.

On Friday, the Kick actor had told the court that the evidences adduced against him in the hit-and-run case were false, and that he was not driving the car which met with an accident. The 49-year-old actor had also stated that his driver was behind the wheel. He had also denied the prosecutions charges that he had consumed liquor just before the mishap occurred.
